There are a couple of improvements from Neddenreip's ballot; BS has been moved down to a more reasonable position and, as nahsdogs noted, Carmel could certainly make a good top-5 case and that's where they are in this poll.

However, I think the improvements are outweighed by the head-scratchers- most notably, FC being ranked 14th, Hamilton Southeastern 17th and Center Grove in a five-way tie for 23rd. A pretty strong case could be made for any of those 3 teams to be in the top-10. Most of us already know more or less what FC has coming back, but HSE is a team that might be under the radar to some fans in HHC territory and they really shouldn't be. Coming off a 21-6 season against a stiff schedule, the Royals just might have the most complete frontcourt in the state- positions 5-3 will be manned respectively: Mabor Majak, a 7'0 10th grader who has been receiving attention from some B1G schools; Brennan Schofield, a 6'8 senior with no fewer than 2 D-1 offers; Aaron Etherington, younger brother of former IU swingman Austin Etherington, a 6'6 junior with offers from no fewer than 4 D-1 schools. Unless their backcourt has some serious issues-which it shouldn't, considering the school has about 3,000 students- being ranked 17th is a slap in the face. As for Center Grove, anyone who attended the Seymour Regional last year could tell you that CG belonged on the same court as NA, and they bring back the main reason for that in the form of 6'8 forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, a national top-50 recruit with offers from Mich St, IU, Ohio.St, Purdue and Xavier, just to name a few. It shouldn't hurt that the Trojans bring back 3 other starters, as well.

Those are all pretty strange to me as well, especially CG being ranked so low despite returning a team that was dominated by sophomores a year ago and gave NA all they wanted to handle at the regional. Just as odd, however, are the teams they decided to rate highly for no apparent reason. McCutcheon has a great point guard in Phinisee but little else of note to recommend them, North Central has a good shooting guard in DJ Johnson but returns virtually no other experienced players, and Castle has a very good combo guard in Hemenway but graduated basically every other guy who played last year. And these are not even the most glaring examples because Logansport lost everyone but Sam Skaggs, the coach's son, who is a good player but hardly enough to justify such a high ranking.

And meanwhile they have Floyd Central ranked behind a Bloomington South team that they have beaten head-to-head in each of the past two seasons. I think we all know I am no FC apologist but that is simply ludicrous. Perhaps it is based on the teams' relative likelihood to win their respective sectionals, but if so that is not a good enough explanation. FC should not be punished for being in a difficult sectional any more than BS should be rewarded for being in a weak one.

One thing I can say, is that if Floyd is a top 10 4A team, then they can prove it on the court.
